Ceramic Interfaces

2024

Electronic devices are usually made of a combination of plastic and metal and do not last very long. Ceramic has interesting properties: it is extremely durable and simply very beautiful.

This project explores the possibilities of designing electronic devices made of ceramic. A particular focus is on the interface and the sensory interaction with the device. In three series of experiments under the themes of light, sound and haptics,

I am iteratively testing which technologies can be combined with ceramics and what advantages this combination brings.

PowerPlant

2022 | in collaboration with Nick Geipel

In our digital world, electricity is essential. So why is it not available everywhere in public spaces?

Power Plant offers a solution that can be installed on top of existing infrastructure in the urban landscape. Using solar cells in combination with fluorescent acrylic makes the charging station not a visual obstacle in the city but an emblematic piece of lively urban culture. The LSC-Technology suitable for diffuse light conditions and, therefore, for less sunny regions. The charging stations are installed in quieter urban spaces, such as squares or parks, so citizens can charge their devices while there.

As a solar charging station, Power Plant provides free public electricity and creates a social venue that eliminates the need for lockers.

What Remains

2023 | in collaboration with Victoria Fechtner

„What Remains“ is a tableware set that takes its shape from the immediate context of its use.

In various processes, we allow the food that normally only temporarily touches the crockery to be permanently incorporated into its form. The resulting aesthetic from the immediate context of the object a the alienation of owner and possession and celebrates the uniqueness that emerges from the locality of an object.
